PowerJournal Tool #4: Journaling
“Journal writing is a voyage to the interior.”
– Christina Baldwin, Author
Read any success book, and it will instruct you to write down your goals.
The act of transcribing your thoughts and bringing in them into the physical world in the form of words on paper or on a screen activates power within yourself and within the universe.
It is the beginning of writing a contract with yourself that you will commit to doing the work to achieve the goal that you put into words.
This literary alchemy creates a launchpoint for creating something out of nothing.
It makes you the creator of yourself and of your life.
No one has to ever read your most personal writing.
“On rare occasions, I may read a short passage from my journals to someone special,” Elizabeth says. “I journal for me, to chronicle my life, and to write about what I want and how I’m going to achieve it. My PowerJournal is for one person: Elizabeth Ann Atkins.”
Fiercely guard your private words so that you can write in absolute honesty and unbridled boldness.
Words – spoken and written – are so powerful, that I don’t waste time writing about what I don’t want.
And if I feel bad, I vent it out in a journal entry, then I write about a solution to make me feel better, as if it is already done and I am expressing gratitude for it.”
“A word after a word after a word is power,” said Margaret Atwood, author of The Handmaid’s Tale and many other books.
Journaling is a way to harness that power and seize control of your life to literally write a new script with yourself in the starring role of a drama, romantic adventure, and anything else you can imagine.
Because writing is an integral part of goal-setting and re-calibrating one’s mindset to build great wealth, achieve better health, enjoy better relationships, and manifest what you want.
Plus, it’s never too late to re-invent yourself or achieve a dream.
So now it’s time to PowerJournal about your heart’s desires.
Be as bold as you wanna be.
No dream is too big. Go for it!
“If you have a goal, write it down. If you do not write it down, you do not have a goal – you have a wish,” says Steve Maraboli, author of Unapologetically You: Reflections on Life and the Human Experience.
So, open your journal or computer and write “PowerJournal for Success.”
Then write a vignette describing you at your pinnacle of success.
Let your imagination soar.
Envision your most limitless life on every level.
What do you truly desire?
It’s extremely important to refuse to allow your current circumstances to cloud your vision.
Both motivational speaker Tony Robbins and filmmaker Tyler Perry were once homeless and living in their cars.
Now they are globally celebrated icons of success and inspiration. Their achievement began with an idea that they worked hard to accomplish.
So now is the time for you to unleash your grandest visions of what you want from life.
The power of your PowerJournal is that it’s yours. This is your private space where you can express yourself away from the critical eyes and ears of family, friends, colleagues, and others.
That is quintessential PowerJournaling — writing about what you want as if you already have it. In doing so, you create a better feeling.
IT WORKS! Because you’ll get so busy being grateful for receiving what you want, that you will forget about what was making you feel bad in the first place.
As you do this, describe what you see and how you feel as you achieve each goal. Imprint that vision in your mind, and record the feelings it brings to your heart, so that you can spend time every day from this day forward, visualizing yourself enjoying your accomplishments as if they have already been achieved.
Do this by creating a mental video of a zenith moment in every area of your life:
health & fitness * family * money *love
career * fun * faith * travel * volunteerism
It’s imperative that you describe your desires and goals in detail.
Rather than, “I want to make more money in 2015,” do some calculations about how much more money you need to enjoy overflow.
Then write out a brainstorm of HOW you can earn more money by perhaps turning a hobby into a side business, or investing, or applying for a new, higher-paying position.
And rather than, “I want to get this diabetes under control,” say, “I want to be cured of diabetes and enjoy life in perfect health.”
Write about how you will accomplish this through diet, exercise and lifestyle changes, and what your life is like when you’re healthier.
Refuse to use words like “I can’t.”
Your PowerJournal is your pure, wide-open dream space.
Everything starts with an idea, and writing about it is simple and powerful. It enables you to set the course for embarking on a new, exciting journey where you have the power to make your greatest dreams come true.
“A soul without a high aim is like a ship without a rudder,” says spiritual writer Eileen Caddy.
So use your journal to chart and navigate your course as you steer the ship of your life into enchanted waters.
And remember these beautiful words by Ghanaian author Lailah Gifty Akita who wrote The Alphabets of Success: “The light in your soul is far greater than the darkness. Shine your light.”
